Vladimir,
I don't believe this is your problem (i.e. MS-SQL), because I believe the
ovwdb
is still an internal DB. I think SQL is used solely for data-collection and
event-storage. Maybe James S. can add a little light on this subject.

Anyway, if you want to NOT use the MS-SQL software then check your release
notes
for the use of the environment variable "DATABASE_TYPE". What it tells you
to do
is to create it (the env-var), and set it to "ACCESS" instead. This will
force
NetView to use the access DB instead of MS-SQL.

But as I said... I'll be surprised if this solves your problem.

Regards,

Gary Boyles

Subject: NV 5.1 NT Install

Hello, folks;
We are trying to install NV 5.1 NT for testing purposes only. As we are not
NT guys, we have problems: cannot install
the program successfuly. On the box there is WinNT 4.0 Server SP3 with MS
SQL 6.5 and also with Access. The machine is
also a PDC of a one-machine domain. SNMP agent is installed and running. The
installation always crashes at the point
when NV is attempting to start owvdb. This happens anytime be it installed
with MS SQL or not. The following is a piece
of the install log:

Ovstart was unable to start ovwdb successfully.
Creating/Updating the ovwdb database failed.
Ovstart return status: 1
Starting NetView service and daemons...Error starting NetView service,
error=1075

How can we select that we want to use flat file databases or MS SQL
explicitly? We did not find any relevant piece of
information touching this issue in the Release Notes.
Please, would anyone amongst you get us in the right direction?
Thanks in advance,
Vladimir.
