Gil -
With NetView V5, you can no longer do lslpp and find out a maintenance
level for NetView. All it will show is that you have 5.1 installed. Try
"lslpp -ha nv6000.base.obj" and see. Since there are no longer any PTFs
for NetView, but Tivoli cross-platform patches instead, that is all you
will ever see. The patches will be applied by the Tivoli framework, not by
lslpp. And the 5.1.1 patch is not yet available. It's about a month or
so away.
The APAR number for the NetView webserver locking /etc/password is IX83228.
To bypass the problem, you just stop the webserver processes, as has been
mentioned before. If you need the e-fix, then call Support. You can give
them the APAR number and they will help you get the e-fix. In fact, they
will figure out the APAR number if you don't know it -- that's their job.
Hope this helps clarify things

Michael:
Can we get PTF/APAR # from you ?. I would like to do an "lslpp" to see
the level that I have, then call for the fix if needed. I would not want
to encounter the problem ahead of time.
My copy of NV5.1 was shipped late December and it is running on a test
server.
Thanks in advance. I have yet to turn security on for fear of locking my
self out.

I had the same problem and got tivoli support on the line. The gave me a
new
version of the webserver and it fixed the problem. You need to open a
problem
with tivoli and they can resolve your issues

Subject: WebServer on version 5.1
I found out that the Webserver daemon on NetView for AIX version 5.1, when
running, creates at user database problem on AIX - users can't logon and
you can't create new users. I found out with IBM that this is a known
problem, but how do I get around the problem? Or is there a fix for the
problem.
Also where are fixes for NetView stored? I cant find fixes on
http://www.support.tivoli.com/
