James:
I had followed the instructions on the release notes for V5.1 page 23 item
5. I understood that, as long as the server installation window is closed, all
should go well
and it did.
In my scenario I am doing all of this on my test server, a risc34h. I can
restore if need be. The reason I installed the client on the server was so
that once I migrated to the production F50, I would be able to use the client
from my test server and log onto the production server. Oh, I should mention
that the test server takes 40 % of my desk work area.
I will wait for some other suggestion from the group before taken any action.
Thanks again.

Well, I didn't think the code would let you do that -- install the client
on the same box as the server -- but that is most definitely not a good
thing. Code-wise the two are incompatible. The same box cannot be both.
Unless someone else has a suggestion, I would call Support, because I have
no clue how to get the client code off the box now. And that is definitely
screwing things up.

Subject: Netview5.1 Client Vs Server
Hi All;
I have installed the following features in the order that they appear on
OS:AIX 4.3.2 NV5.1 .
1. Framework 3.6
2 Netview 5.1 Server
3 Netview 5.1Client
4 Databases
5 Books
Since the successful installation of NV 5.1 client, I can NO longer log
onto netview from anywhere including the console. I enter "nv6000" and get
the following message.
Client/Server configuration error for (unknown):
/usr/OV/databases/servername not found. Probably not configured for a
server.
Use TME 10 desktop Add/Change Server to try to correct the problem.
The Add/Change appear applicable to the client icon only.
If a try to config the client using the server name I get an error to the
effect; The client can not be a client to it self.
I have 3 icons on the Policy Region:risc34h-region window.
1. AIX risc34h. (icon looks like a Server)
2. risc34h (icon looks like a PC).
3. risc34h (icon looks like a Server).
Where did I go wrong?
Is installing Client & Server on the same box a no no ..?
All Netview Daemons look good.
Netview access was OK before the client was installed.
Thank in advance..
