I agree with David on this one being an isolated
incident, at least in our experience. We are currently running v3.2.2.1 on
our 5000BHs and Optivity NMS 8.1 in our production network and have not run into
this problem. We did recently run into an interoperability issue between
the 5000BH and Fore ASX switches using PNNI and ILMI which took down a few
segments of our network, but we haven't seen the 5000BH reboot while using any
Optivity tool. (at least not so far!! :-) We use Expanded view and
Omniview very regularly.)
All,
Just FYI, I've seen no official
recoginition of this issue internally at Nortel Networks. This may have been
an isolated incident or a product of an environmental issue.
Expanded
View does an "SNMP Get" to obtain status of a port. Since
thousands, if not millions, of SNMP gets are done to the 3.2.2 MCP every day
- and we're not getting any other reports of every instance of Expanded View
crashing a switch - I would classify this as an isolated incident. If other
are seeing this, I'd strongly recommend calling the TSC to confirm and get a
CR opened against the issue!
As for fault_correlator_filter, it does
work - done it many times myself. No real magic - just run the script and
the startup flags for the trap_server will be modified. Since it's just a
script, you can look through it and try the steps manually if you think the
script itself is failing.

Hello all,/bigger> Thought I'd pass on a
problem I ran into today. Whilst investigating a slow response problem I
attempted to obtain the status of a port in Expanded View. This upset
the agent to the extent that it rebooted the 5000BH and took down our
ATM network...you can imagine my embarrassment!!!!! The agent is an MCP
v3.2.2 handle with care!!!!/bigger> Incidentally...can anyone
confirm whether the fault_correlator_filter off command actually works?
It doesn't seem to do anything on our system!?!/bigger>
