Only gateways and networks qualify for the IP Internet level submap. What
I do with things
that are not yet fully cooperating snmp-wise is create a Collection called
'Needs_SNMP'
based on things that are not snmp-supported and isNode is true. Usually I
end up excluding
such things by excluding all non-snmp things from discovery, but in the
beginning I just try to
exclude workstations with ranges and then check that Collection to find
nodes I really want
but which need more work.

Promotion to the various map levels is based on the oid_to_type file, so
you have a
chicken/egg problem if they are not responding to snmp.

You can also use the loadhost command to force what you want, but it is not
a natural
discovery then, and I don't like to design a solution based on that level
of administration.

Does anyone know of a way to get Netmon to discover objects from a seedfile
that have an SNMP Time-out problem, but put them on the IP Internet level
submap in the 'new objects holding area' instead of burying them deep
within a LAN object?

Many thanks in advance,

Sam Rudland
