Sam,

If your nodes that you are discovering only have one interface, and they are in
a a previously discovered network, and SNMP times out, I don't think any of the
replies would help you.

Here is what I would do:

  1. Create a new field in your database: isNewNode. Make it a string field,
with locate. See other examples in /usr/OV/fields/C/*, and in the
     administrators guide.
  2. Make a ruleset that sets the new isNewNode database field to "Yes" for the
node when a "new node added" netmon trap is recieved. Make sure this
ruleset is running (either from the ESE Automation file or from an event
     console.
  3. Create a collection based on the field "isNewNode" being set to "Yes", and
if you like, isSNMPSupported set to TRUE.

When new nodes are discovered, the collection will contain them. You can also
set up a ruleset and a custom trap that will change the isNewNode field to "No"
when you issue a custom trap.
