Jeff-
CiscoWorks2000 has a number of integration points with NetView:
Using the web-based services of the Cisco Management Connection you can
easily link from the browser-based interface of CiscoWorks2000 to the
browser interface of NetView. You can also link directly from the
diagnostic tools section of the browser interface of NetView, passing the
context of the Cisco device you are working with, directly to the Device
Center of CiscoWorks2000. Because all of these functions are browser-based,
with linkage between them using URLs, it does not matter what OS you are
running CiscoWorks2000 and NetView on.
Now, as you may be aware some of the components of CiscoWorks2000 are not
browser-based, specifically the CiscoView application. CiscoView is the
application which has been 'traditionally' used to integrate Cisco icons and
mibs with NetView, and is launched directly from the NetView maps. This
level of integration, "mibs, icons and CiscoView" is only available today
with NetView on AIX, when CiscoWorks2000 is installed on the same machine as
NetView.
We are currently working on the next release of CiscoWorks2000 - one of the
main features of this new release is the 'webification' of CiscoView and the
'mib, icon' functions that integrate with network management platforms like
NetView - with the openness of OS independence that is experieced today with
the Cisco Management Connection. It is too early in the game to committ to
you that we will definitely have CiscoView integrated with NetView on OSs
other than AIX, but it is our goal to partner with companies like Tivoli to
enable them to market thier products on the leading OSs, and have the same
level of integration with Cisco management tools.
If we are able to move in the NetView on Solaris directions, (perhaps in
beta this summer), would you be interested in beta testing?
