Instead of saying PATH=$PATH:/stuff,
just say export PATH=/usr/bin:/etc:/usr/sbin:/usr/ucb:/usr/bin/X11:/sbin
 That's what I think is in etc/environment  but check your system.
Add the paths for Netview and other products.
That's all I meant, nothing mysterious

How can I  reset the PATH to the basic one in the /etc/enviroments ?
