Ok, well I can't believe that no other customers want to do this. Any how I
have an open pmr to Christine Nutt about it. Thanks.

The problem is WAY more fundamental than that.

mib2trap on NT can be used to update your trapd.conf by creating an
addtrap script. But since the NT TEC adapter is completely different, and
does not read the trapd.conf file, no changes you do there will affect what
the NT TEC adapter does. You must change (customize) the tecad_nv6k
configuration files, and then create your .baroc to match. There is no
automated process to help you NT as there is in UNIX.

The mib2trap-created .baroc file is meant for UNIX-only. It has no
connection with what happens on the NT adapter. You might as well throw it
away. Even if you do define a new superclass and import this new .baroc
into TEC, the tecad_nv6k adapter you are using will not send it that way
because it know nothing about it. Because that is not how it works. You
must read the event adapters guide that ships with TEC and learn how to
identify new traps and classes to send to TEC (using the CDS file I
believe).

Problem is that when the baroc is compiled into a rule set it errors out
with the message that it can't find superclass nvserverd_event. Is it
possible to replace this superclass name with NV6K and import it into the
TECAD_NV6K.BAROC and then compile ?

Todd - after sending some of these 3rd party traps (cisco/netware etc), try
running the "wtdumprl" command from your tec server. If you see the data
from the 3rd party traps with a message like "COULD NOT PROCESS" at the
end, this means trapd is doing it's job and you need to get the proper
baroc files loaded (which comes back to your original question about
nvserverd_event)

If you do not see any of this data, than it could be the problem James
mentioned where trapd is not even forwarding these traps.

I have the Tec adapter loaded but it only sends traps that are
netview-related, in other words I don't get netware/cisco/bay specific
traps being sent to TEC from netview.

I am not an expert on NT doc so I don't know what you are reading, but the
files you are talking about are for the UNIX version only. Since there is
no nvserverd in NT, there is no nvserverd event, and hence no .baroc and no
.rls. Look in your NT release notes. You should find mention of how to
install the NT TEC adapter, which is way different than the internal
NetView one supplied with UNIX.

Good luck

>From what I understand, when you run mib2trap a baroc file is created. This
baroc file needs to be imported and compiled into a rule base on TEC.
However there seems to be a class problem with an error about
nvserverd_event missing. Does anyone know where this file
nvserverd_event.baroc and nvserverd_event.rls are located. They are
supposed to be on the netview server under \usr\ov\conf. A document that I
found states that these came with netview 5.0 and should be imported along
with any other baroc files created in netview. Any help would be
appreciated.
Ps: These files don't come with 5.1 or 5.1.1
