When you select monitor from the GUI the node you are trying to Monitor must
have the trapgend agent installed and running. The MIB you are looking at is
for the SIA agent of MLM and he does not provide the data to Monitor function.
He will provide it to MLM if you want to get at it by setting up MLM threshold
monitoring.

Select Help from the GUI, which bring up the dynatext browser, and select the
NetView Help book. The requirement for trapgend is covered in Chapter 373.

A NetView client does not run any daemons, so trapgend will not installed there
unless you take steps to put him there.
You can install trapgend on a remote node using SMIT or the Tivoli Framework

Hi ,

I highlight a node in an IP segment and right click on the node.
In the popup menu there is a "Monitor" menu item.
When I left click on "Monitor" another menu pops up an there is a menu item
for system activity.
When I rigth click on "System activity" there is a menu item for Disk Usage.

When I right click on Disk Usage it pops up with a Disk Space dialog box.
All we need to do is enter the address of the node that we need to monitor
the disk usage for.

On the netview server I can moitor the disk usage.
That way I get the information about the disk/ file system usage.

But on one of the nodes this dialog box gives an error message saying
"servername.abc.abc: The variable does not exist or is read only"

When I use the MIB browser to get the variable below
iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.ibm.ibmprod.systemMonitor6000.smSia
SystemInformation.smSiaSystemFileSystem.smSiaSystemFileSystemTable
It gives the correct information about the file system and the disk usage.

I could not determine why the Monitor was unable to read the variable.

The netview server is running TME 10 NetView 5.1 on AIX 4.3.2.
The also is also an AIX 4.1.4 server running sysinfod.

When I display the object information for both the Netview server and the
netview client the only difference is that
NetView server's isManager = TRUE and for the node it is FALSE.

Should I be running any other process on the node.

I am able to moitor the disk usage on the netview server.

Rajiv
