If you back up all of /usr/OV then what is missing.  All EUI settings as you
call them are saved in there somewhere, aren't they? Else how could they be read
the next time?

What don't I understand about your problem?

To summarize the ideas till now...
- mksysb / sysback
- tar (online or offline)
- /usr/OV/install/tools/nvp.v5r1

Still I do see the problem, that the last EUI-settings will be lost. Does
anyone know, how to restart NetView-GUI on a PC-box running XWinPro (of
course in the right CDE-Window with the right maps and workspaces open ...)

I have to make sure that -since our TEC isn't configured properly yet- the
GUI is up and running every morning.

the backup a system-bootable backup- and to remember to put cycle your
tapes.  We are running 5.1.1 on aix 4.2.1

Sysback is a life saver here. You get a bootable tape that can restore all
your filesystems and data. If you've got sysback, I'd be happy to post a
script that will run the backup (by volume group), including bringing down
Netview EUIs/daemons and CiscoWorks daemons. We run full weekly backups with
this utility via cron.

I'm about to set up the regular backup strategy for our NetView-database.
I'd like to have this done automatically via a scheduling program. As I see
at the moment, there are two possible ways

1) using /usr/OV/install/tools/nvp.v5r1 (price is to stop all EUIs in
advance)
2) ovstop, backing up manually, ovstart (price is to acknowledge all the
daemon-down/up again messages, goodie is user's settings are not lost)

How do other admins handle this? Any ideas, suggestions?
