nodes reporting different link address

We get a lot of events similar to the one below from different nodes

DESCRIPTION : Thu Dec 09 08:53:11 1999 rmsxstation     N lilly reported
      different Link Address than obtained from rmsxstation by SNMP

Can someone point me to where I should start looking up for the problem and its
resolution.
