Bonnie,

If possible, you might look into running Netview on it's own box, ie the F30
and migrate
Optivity and CW2000 to a separate server. We have an F50 with 2Gig running
AIX 4.3.2/ Netview v5.1.2/ CW2000 4.2
and are getting ready to move Netview to its own Server to separate Netview and
CW2000 for performance.

Also, one small factor you might want to consider is that some tools vendors
such as Cisco
release new versions for Solaris sooner than for AIX. An example being that
CiscoWorks2000
release 3 for NT and Solaris is already available. They are working on the AIX
release.

Subject: AIX vs. Solaris

We are planning to purchase new hardware for network management. We run AIX
4.2, Netview V5R1, Optivity 8.1.1 and CW2000 4.2. We have looked at the IBM F50
with 2GB RAM to meet our requirements. We have been asked to compare with a Sun
platform. Can anyone give suggestions on the advantages/disadvantages of IBM
vs. Sun and AIX vs. Solaris with this combination of software? We are currently
running an upgraded J30 with 1 GB RAM with some performance problems.

Thank you.
