Good. So there is no corruption or dns problem. Now, do an 'ovtopofix -a'.
That synchronizes the databases. See the man page for this command.

Leslie,

I checked the hostname with the ovobjprint there is no objectid for this
node. It says.... ********** NO SUCH OBJECT ID *********

I cheked the hostname with ovtopodump and it shows:

CLASS OBJECT ID OBJECT STATUS IP ADDRESS
NODES 3053/3052 vianss01.woolworth.com Unmanaged
10.120.3.10

I am able to do an nslookup for both the IP and the Hostname.

I did a locate, it replies that it is not found. So it wasn't placed in any
submaps.

Any other suggestions ?

Thanks.

Michael, there may be more than one thing going on here.

When I am unable to navigate from the event to the map, it is either
because I don't have name lookup working exactly the same way in
both directions for that node, or it is because the Selection Name for
the node is not just the name but has gotten a number stuck to the end
of it.

Try ovobjprint | grep <nodename> and see if you have more than one
occurrance of the node, all but one of which have a multi-digit number
stuck to the end of it. This indicates a sort of corruption, where Netview
has discovered the same node multiple times and not realized that it is
the same node, so added those numbers to make it a unique object.

If it is the DNS problem, make sure that the name resolves to the address,
and the address resolves to the SAME name. If your DNS does not
behave the way Netview likes, your best bet is to override it with an
/etc/hosts file, and /etc/netsvc.conf that contains 'hosts=local,bind'.

I would expect that the object actually is on the map somewhere, just
lower down, and you should be able to find it with the Locate function.
If not, try ovtopofix -a with the maps closed and netmon stopped.

Environment: Netview for Unix 5.1.2, AIX 4.3 running on IBM SP2.

Hello everyone.

I'm working on our test box with version 5.1.2. I'm using the seed file to
discover specific
nodes. I've been successful up until now.
I placed a single entry in the seed file to discover one of our notes
servers. I
already have
5 discovered so far. The original 5 were placed on the map with no problem.

For this one I received messages in the Control Desk that said a "Node
Added",
"Interface....Added",
"System Name Changed", and finally "Node Up". However, no symbol was placed
on
the map.
I opened the card for "Node Up" and clicked on "Highlight" to see if it had
been
placed where I
didn't notice it. A "Event Information" window popped up that said

vianss01.woolworth.com isnot a valid host name!

ovtopodump vianss01 showed an entry.
ovobjprint -s vianss01 replied with ********** NO SUCH OBJECT ID
**********

Has anyone run into this before ? If so, what did you do to correct this ?
Any help is always appreciated.
