Two things -

First, I'll bet that more has changed in your NetView installation since you
installed the product than just trying to install Oracle. That message
indicates that the information stored in the NetView database about his own
hostname and IP address are incorrect. You will need to run
/usr/OV/service/reset_ci and then go back and configure ovtopmd.

But second, you are aware I take it, that running live with a relational
database is a severe performance limitation, and that you would be far better
off, if your network is of any size (bigger than a couple thousand objects) to
run with flat file, and upload topology periodically to the RDBMS for whatever
use you want to make of it there.

Subject: Configuring Netview to use Oracle RDB

Hello!

I have a question regarding the procedure when switching over from flat files to
an Oracle database.

Environment :

TME Framework 3.6
NetView 5.1.1
Oracle 7.3.4
Solaris 2.6

Using the "TME 10 NetView Database Guide" as guide, we have gone through the
NetView database creation and the RIM Object creation in section 1.

We then created the IP Topology Tables according to section 2.1 and transferred
the topology data to the Oracle databse using the procedure in section 2.2.

When searching the Oracle database, we can find the nodes and the data about
each of them, so the database-transfer went well.

But when we then are to configure ovtopmd to use the Relational Database, we get
an error and can't proceed. Running the command "produced" from the TME GUI on
the commandline, this happens :

skrova# /usr/OV/bin/updatelrf ovtopmd '-S'
Working...
Updated /usr/OV/lrf/ovtopmd.lrf
ERROR: Unable to connect to Network_Manager_s (have you done ovstart?)
(OVs 1-16)
WARNING: Unable to register /usr/OV/lrf/ovtopmd.lrf

We _have_ tried ovstart, and the NetView GUI is running, so all normal daemons
are OK. Do anyone have any clue to what the error may be, or what we should look
for ?
