Save yourself a LOT of grief--we were running custom Perl scripts to do
this, and it's been a support nightmare, not to mention that the parent ping
tests are not always accurate. Eval Tivoli Manager for Network Connectivity,
or the actual SMARTS software itself. We have it running in test, and are
buying it. Not too expensive for a Tivoli product, either ;-)

Thanks Jeff for the info, but we are running 5.12 now and was trying to get
some
info on this version. We will be upgrading to V6 in the near future.
