I recently got NV6.0 up and running on an H-50 at AIX 4.3.3. Although I have
not experimented extensively, here's the results so far:
(1) NV6.0 takes longer to load the GUI and open the map, about 30-40 seconds
vs. 10-15 seconds on NV5.1.2 on AIX 4.3.3 but this is not a big deal.
(2) NV6.0 smart sets are terrific, easy to configure and great for fast
monitoring to NetView neophytes.
(3) NV6.0 submat explorer is even better for fast monitoring to NetView
neophytes.
(4) NV6.0 with HAVIEW is terrific but with quirks, i.e. I have two HACMP
clusters, one HACMPE/S and the other classic HACMP. The HACMPE/S clinfo is
running on the NV6.0 host and picks up the HACMPE/S cluster perfectly but fails
to pickup details on the classic HACMP cluster. Also when the HACMPE/S cluster
does a failover, the HAVIEW icon disappears and then reappears in the new
object area of the internet map.
Overall, the smartsets/submap explorer combination is just what the doctor
ordered for curing the teachin' blues to NetView neophytes. Once look at these
GUIs and the neophyte is ready to do serious monitoring. No more extended
explanations are needed on how to navigate thru the traditional connectivity
maps, etc.
