Leslie, would it be better to put the one interface in the seed file with the
assigned DNS name or the IP address of the assigned DNS name? What would be the
result of either instance. I currently put the IP address in the seed file in
the event that there is a problem with resolution. The primary and secondary DNS
servers run outside of the NetView system.

Alexis, it is ok to have different names on each interface. But you must
put only ONE of them in the seedfile for each node, as Paul said. Pick the
loopbacks, if they have them. Now take netmon down, delete all of those
things from the map, and anything related to them. Close the map. Do an
ovtopofix -a. And restart netmon, and the map. At this point you will be
doing
it right. If you still have a problem, then something unusual is going on.
But as it
stands, you can expect wierd things if a device appears more than once
in the seedfile.

Cordially,

I put 6 interfaces for each router in my seed file, because each resoves
with a
different name in the DNS.
I have neither way nor authority to change this features.
Then i tried to add this interfaces in my /etc/hosts in order to have only
one
name for each router.

Some routers are now discovered but others are not. What is really strange
is
that netview discovered 4 routers (say router1, router2, ..., router4) wich
are
all connected to a router named sysa, but does not appear in any submap (i
have
only one map).
I tried to demand poll on router1 to router4 but i can't discover sysa.

If i use ovobjprint i have:

 ovobjprint -s sysa
                OBJECTID SELECTION NAME

OBJECT: 536

FIELD ID FIELD NAME FIELD VALUE
        10 Selection Name "sysa"
        11 IP Hostname "sysa"
        133 XXMAP Protocol List "IP"
        560 IP Name "sysa"

Any help would be grateful.
Thank you.

Did you happen to seed all the interfaces for our core router in the netmon
seed file? You should seed only one interface per router (one that resolves
in the DNS perferably).
