Dialer interfaces should be set to have status reported by SNMP and not by
ping. That's why that feature was provided
If this is a 5.1 issue rather than 6.0.1 then you have to live with them as
"critical" or unmanage them.

Sorry James, but your wrong (partially :-)

Extract from RFC1573b mib:

"The current operational state of the interface. The
testing(3) state indicates that no operational packets
can be passed. If ifAdminStatus is down(2) then
ifOperStatus should be down(2). If ifAdminStatus is
changed to up(1) then ifOperStatus should change to
up(1) if the interface is ready to transmit and
receive network traffic; it should change to
dormant(5) if the interface is waiting for external
actions (such as a serial line waiting for an
incomming connection); it should remain in the down(2)
state if and only if there is a fault that prevents if
from going to the up(1) state."

Therefore AdminStatus UP and OperStatus DORMANT is a normal scenario for a
dialler connection (ISDN, SLIP, etc).
You would be right if it were an Ethernet however ...

I don't think José actually said what it was.

My understanding is that your snmpd agent in the router should not allow a
state in which the Admin status is UP and the Oper status is dormant. He
should set the Admin status to down when you change the Oper status to
dormant, because you have taken an administrative step to bring down the
router. The bug is in the Wellfleet code, not NetView's.
