This message is in MIME format. Since your mail reader does not understand this format, some or all of this message may not be legible. That doesn't sound good. This is the version Tivoli installed for us. We do not have a 6.0.2 CD. Is 6.0.2 shipped as a CD? Or is it a patch to 6.0/6.0.1 a la Tivoli Framework... Does this mean I will have to scrap my installation and re-install 6.0.2? John Mackney Technical Design Authority Logical eBOC Logical (UK) Ltd. You should go to 6.0.2 because that is the only level of Version 6 that is truly supported. Once 6.0.2 shipped it was committed on the build machines and it became the base level of code. We cannot duplicate earlier levels and the code you have already does not match what is the basis for our diagnostic efforts should you encounter a code problem. You are correct that the 6.0.1 Release Notes do not mention the new trapd.conf available for merging. This was added in 6.0.2 Release Notes. Because 6.0.1 (and 6.0.2) are maintenance releases and do not require a migration, there is no automatic mechanism for the merge to occur. Maybe it's only in the 6.0.2 release notes. I will follow the instructions under nvaddreapdconf in the man pages and see it that fixes up these "trap found with no format..." messages John -----Original Message----- From: James_Shanks@tivoli.com [mailto:James_Shanks@tivoli.com] Sent: 16 May 2001 16:29 To: IBM NetView Discussion Subject: Re: [NV-L] Loading MIBs The entire trap for which no known format is found is spelled out in the trapd.log immediately following that message. It tells you the enterprise number, the generic id, the specific id, and all the variables. You don't really need a MIB to define it. You can just create an entry in trapd.conf using xnmtrap yourself. If you want to find a MIB that defines it, then I guess you will have to search for it. But even if you find the MIB, loading it alone will not define the trap. You must run mib2trap against the MIB, which produces an addtrap script you run to update trapd.conf. You haven't told us what level of code you are running but I am assuming 6.0.2 because this is a new install. Did you merge the trapd.conf in /usr/OV/newconfig/OVSNMP-RUN with the one traps uses in /usr/OV/conf/C as directed in the Release Notes for 6.0.2? /usr/OV/newconfig/OVSNMP-RUN/trapd.conf adds about a hundred new Cisco traps to trapd.conf. Make sure you do the merge with nvaddtrapdconf before you go looking so that you don't re-invent the wheel. You can post your trapd.log excerpt here and see if anyone recognizes the trap.
