My understanding of snmpV3 was that it basically allowed a more complex
security mechanism, but that all the underlying structure from V2 remained
the same.
Maybe I am ignorant but I was not aware that the format of traps had
changed between snmpV3 and snmpV2.
Have you tried sending traps ot the NetView box? If so, do you get error
messages in trapd.log or what?
And ditto for the MIBs. I wasn't aware of any MIB construct changes. So
can you load thier MIBs with the SNMPV1/V2 loader (xnmloadmib2) or not?
Have you tried?

Subject: [NV-L] how to manage Nokia devices? (snmp v3)
Since Netview cannot seem to receive traps or query Nokia (snmp v3)
MIBs, I'm hunting for a cost-effective solution. Our current network
management environment uses Netview (AIX) extensively for all other
devices, but it seems as though we're stuck for supporting Nokia
devices other than monitoring their interfaces via ping.
Any cost-effective solutions available? As far as I can tell, Netview
doesn't have any firm plans for supporting snmp v3 yet.
TIA for any advice!
