Yes, Bill, all of those rules-type entries need to remain. The
node listing entries, for forcing discovery, can remain or they can
be removed. If there are tons of them, remove them to speed up
startup. I usually make a bunch of parts of seedfiles, and the
rules part must be used at all times to maintain your preference.
That includes all directives other than explicit addresses or names.
Wildcards, ranges, oids, positve or negative, $,%, etc.
Cordially,

Subject: [NV-L] Seed file entries for SNMP polling
NV for Unix 6.0.2, AIX
I've noted the recommendation that
it is best to remove the seed file
entries after the listed nodes have
been discovered (except for the
ones which block automatic
discovery). Should the negative
entries remain there permanently? I
presume they should.
What about the entries which direct
netmon to use SNMP instead of PING?
Is this direction remembered in
the database or do these items
remain in permanently? I haven't
been able to reach a firm
conclusion from reading the sources.
Thanks, Bill Evans
