Jeff, We use Tivoli Remote Control for remote control of our W2K Netview servers. We have had no problems so far using this. We use the inbuilt Netview database so can't comment on SQL. The Netview user has to be logged on locally for WEB clients to work so Terminal Services would be useless in any case. You would not be able to get to this user when working through it. Netview would need a 'bit' of a redesign in this area to support it. Also, having multiple users logged on to the Netview server all doing possible updates to the database might not be a good idea. I found the log file and it was trying to run the create_sqldb.bat file which is for SQL 6.5. There is another batch file called create_sql7.bat, which not suprisingly is for SQL 7. They are different in the way they create the table, so when it prompted me for the retry/cancel option, I copied the create_sql7.bat over the the top of create_sql.bat, and then pressed the Retry button. Away it went, completing the install. It appears to be working fine, but we will have to wait and see. If anyone has been down this path and found out it still doesnt work properly, I would be interested in your experiance. I am still interested in how people are remotely managing their servers if you cant use Terminal Services. We have used VNC in the past, but the screen refresh, or lack of it on occasions, drives us nuts. I have a few questions about the installation as I am having trouble with a couple of things. As well as Windows 2000, we also use MS SQL 2000 as the standard database. I havent found any reference to SQL2000 which could be part of my problem. 1, Terminal Services support. I notice by its behaviour, and searching through the archives, that the terminal services functionality is not supported in NetView. Is it likely to be and any ideas when? (I have since removed Terminal Services) 2, SQL database/NetView account In trying to use SQL 2000, I keep getting an installation error that NetView could not set up the databases correctly when it is setting up the ODBC databases. Initially I thought this was a SQL2000 compatibility issue, but I notice that the installation always creates a local NetView user on the machine even when the nvinstall -nu command is given. (preference is to use a domain account) which I have created and setup in SQL2000 in the appropriate groups for security. I suppose the question here really is, can NetView be installed in this environment, even if it means a lot of manual tweaking, or should I give up as it will never work in this version?
