You are witnessing all this on a map open read-write, correct? On a
read-only map you have to do a map refresh first.

Is ipmap running? Do a "ps -ef | grep ipmap" and note the process id.
Then wait a minute and do it again. Is the process id still the same?
If not, then your object is not getting put on the map because ipmap can't
stay up long enough to do it. In that case there are probably plenty of
messages in the nettl logs about bad objects. You can format those with
netfmt -f /usr/OV/log/nttl.LOG00 > formatted.LOG00 and see. Format LOG01
the same way. But you will probably need to call support if this is what
you see.

If ipmap is working, then try looking at this.
When all this happens, presumably the object is also put in the object
databases (because it is in topology), so you should be able to do an
ovobjprint -s xxxxx
and get some output. Part of that output should be fields which say "Maps
exist" and "Maps managed". For one map, the value for each should 1.
Are they there? If so, then wait a minute or to for ipmap to catch up.
If you still don't see the object, take the GUI down and then restart it.
Still not there? Take it down again and run ovtopofix -A and then restart
the GUI.

Since the only supported way to delete an object is from the GUI, how are
you deleting this object in order to re-discover it?

Subject: [NV-L] Discovering new nodes problem

Hello List:

I have the next problem:

When Netview discovers a new node, in the event log appears the message:

xxxxxx Node Added where xxxx is the ip address or ip name of the
discovered node.

But when i select option Highligth node on map, I receive the message:

xxxxx is not a valid host name

If I use the option: Locate -> Objects -> By Attribute -> Ip Address (or IP
Hostname) I receive the message:

no symbols representing objects found

If I look into the data base with the command: ovtopodump xxxxxx

Then I can see that the object exists in the data base.

I have deleted the node and rediscovered by Netview and still have the
problem.

Any idea about this problem?????

I'm running Netview 6.02, AIX 4.3.3.

Thanks. Saludos.
