Ah hah! That's it! The switches have ipForwarding set to 0 so NetView
treats them as routers and therefore puts them on the IPMap. These devices
were never deleted, just added back to the IPMap although I removed them
from there. Now I know what is going on...thanks.

Allie,
It sounds like you may have different problems than map layout if nodes
are getting automatically deleted and rediscovered. Could you have
duplicate IP address problems?

Are your switches also routers? NetView tests for the MIB-2 variable
for ipForwarding to determine if a node is a router. If so, it will
inherently go onto your top-level IP Internet map. Other devices should
only appear as determined by the entries in /usr/OV/conf/oid_to_type.
Typically switches appear inside the network level as well as inside the
segment level.

I would tackle why nodes are being deleted and rediscovered first. I
have seen situations where switches have a management address. If all
your switches have the SAME management address in addition to the
obvious IP interface, this would explain a) why they think they are
routers, and b) why they keep getting deleted and rediscovered.

Cheers,
Jane
