Oliver,

It does help. Since the man page says "netmon -y" will reload the
seedfile, I interpreted that to mean it would process whatever was in
that seedfile, not just certain entry types. Thanks for the
clarification! Although I got it to work, I appreciate understanding
why... It did in fact perform just as you described.

Hi,

netmon has to be restarted in order to pick up those $-entries.
"netmon -y" will only pick up explict addresses for discovery.
The next demandpoll will turn over to SNMP polling.

Devices with unnumbered interfaces will be
automatically SNMP polled (without an $-entry in the seedfile).

Hop this helps.

Kind regards

Hi Maxime,

Running AIX 4.3.3, Netview 6.03

We have similar set up on some routers where they are only reachable via
one interface. At 6.01, the SNMP status polling did not work well for
this circumstance and was fixed in 6.03 (ref. IY23872 although this is a
bit misleading - it occurred with or without HSRP and the fix took care
of both circumstances for us - ref. PMR 46578). I did find that for
nodes that were already being ICMP polled, they did not seem to switch
to SNMP polling after modifying and re-reading the seedfile. Perhaps I
was impatient. I found that a quick unmanage and then manage of those
nodes did the trick. A demand poll confirmed the polling type then
changed.

Subject: [NV-L] ICMP & SNMP

Hi,

Netview 6.1 AIX 4.3.3

I have several routers whith multiple interfaces.
I can reach by ICMP and SNMP the primary interface That i put in my
seedfile. The other interfaces of that routers could not be reach by ICMP
but only SNMP.
In order to have their status under Netview I put a $ (to use only SNMP
and
not ICMP) in front of the name of my router in the seedfile.
When I ask a to do a demand poll on this routeur, Netview still uses
ping
to have the status on the interface and not an SNMP get ( Never see get
SNMP status in the demand poll window). My interfaces which are up when
i
browse the mib, still red an down on my Netview Map.

Further more on some of my router which are not with a $ i can see in
the
pop up window of the demand poll that there is a get SNMP status
command.

Is this a bug of the 6.1 Version or do i do something wrong

Cordialement.
