One more thought. I've done a number of these, and no one
has ever raised this particular issue - that the interface card
is not labeled as HSRP, so how do you know that it is HSRP.
At most sites I find that the network guys are very well aware
of the addresses that are configured as HSRP. There is
usually some sort of numbering scheme in place, and they
know them by heart. You can see that it is HSRP if you check
the Object Info (under Tools) for the interface itself, but of
course you have to find it first to do that...
Anybody else have any thoughts?

Very much clearer. However, the bia of the interface that "host" the
virtual address is displayed in the object container representing the
router. i.e. the diamond that represents the router when you double click
on
it you see the bia for the interface that host the virtual address HSRP.
However, when you drill down into the node object container that represents
the router you dont see an object that has a label HSRP or otherwise to
denote the interface as an HSRP. The HSRP address is not represented on
the
topology with a symbol. How will status events be noticed when there is no
symbol representing the HSRP?

It is your assumptions that are leading you astray. The routers
will be represented as they always are. The HSRP business
applies to interfaces on those routers. An interface with an
HSRP address will be recognized as such, and will be moved
from one node to the other, depending on where it actually
goes at any given time. It is checked every 5 minutes by
doing an snmpget of sysname via that address, and checking
to see who responds. When you see the delete and add events,
you are seeing Netview moving the interface from one node
to another. Clearer?

Netview 6.02 Aix 4.3.3 I am trying to monitor HSRP addresses from the
Netview Topology Map. I am under the assumption that an object container
will be drawn on the topology representing the active HSRP address. I
havent seen any object containers on the map representing HSRP addresses.
Furthermore, I configured the netmon.seed file with the ip address of the
HSRP interface and have yet to see this interface discovered as an object
on
the map. I cat the trapd.log and see that there are indeed HSRP addresses
being added and deleted from the platform. Why cant I see a HSRP address
on
the topology? What can I do?
