Hello Netview-folks around the planet, we are driving a Netview 6.0.2/Optivity 8.1.1/AIX4.3.2-platform on our wonderful neverstopping IBM C10 from 1990 with installed WEB-Server for our Operating using Internet-Explorer 5.00. The machine is also used as primary DNS-system and Distributed Sniffer-Analyzer-machine. We recently received CDs from IBM and upgraded to AIX4.3.3 From that point on things went worse. We can see that the ARP-cache is not populated as usual with over 300 entries. Only around 60 entries are possible. The ARP-parameters for the no -command are still the same as used before. arptab_bsiz = 40 arptab_nb = 140 arpqsize = 1 arpt_killc = 20 And to our surprise, besides IP-adressses from boxes from our local network, some entries are containing non-local IP-Adresses. Here is an example from our ARP-Cache that normally contains only "136.175"-entries: skfsch06.sch.skf.se (136.175.69.28) at 40:0:4:6:20:12 [token ring] rt=806:6:800:0 schdns01.sch.skf.se (136.175.156.23) at 0:20:35:f:92:19 [ethernet] ? (3.0.0.0) at (incomplete) <--- What is this ? ? (0.0.8.6) at (incomplete) <--- Where are these entries coming from ? It is also not possible to delete these ARP-entries using the arp -d -command. Token-Ring-entries also miss the RIF information or show usesless RIF: t320egc-a-233.sch.skf.se (136.175.60.211) at 0:0:81:c:77:11 [token ring] skfsch06.sch.skf.se (136.175.69.28) at 40:0:4:6:20:12 [token ring] rt=806:6:800:0 Under AIX 4.3.2: Correct RIF-information schcnv02.sch.skf.se (136.175.61.182) at 0:20:4a:8:ea:f0 [token ring] rt=810:2a6b:a40c:ab40 The impact on Netview is a red/green Event-Log. For stations not in the ARP-Cache, the first Ping fails obviously, the box turns red and immediately after this, it turns green followed by the "Box up"-message in the event-log. Has anybody of You experienced similar effects ? Any help is welcome ``` (o o) ------------------oOO-(_)-OOo------------------ Winfried Gehrig mailto:Winfried.Gehrig@skf.com SKF GmbH FON ++49(0)9721 56 3077 Gunnar Wester Str. 12 Virtual FAX ++49(0)9721 5663266 97421 Schweinfurt (Germany) Our bearings turn the planet http://www.skf.com ----------------------------------------------- |
