I think your case is the case it was intended for. Better talk to
Support about how to activate it.

As far as we have ever been told, netmon & nmdemandpoll use
the settings in xnmsnmpconf, and the communityNames.conf file,
if necessary, against the object name, and then update the
xnmsnmpconf if necessary. The other apps, like 'Monitor...Network
Config..Address' use name resolution first, then xnmsnmpconf,
no alternates, which is why they sometimes give different results
in terms of success or failure.

I believe the new snmp IP Address field is not used by netview
at all, but is made available for use by other applications. It is
not documented as far as I can tell.

Hi,

NV 7.1.1 / AIX 4.3.3

I tried IY26119 out yesterday, and still have got SNMP Address changed
Events. So maybe i have done something wrong, or
the ENV var is not doing what i expected it should do.

The problem i have since 7.x is, that after Migration of the Database,
nmdemandpoll for some devices are not working anymore.
( only 1 Interface of this Devices is reachable via SNMP) This is of cause
the DNS forward Interface !. So the strange thing is now
that i can do snmpwalk on commandline, ping/telnet/snmp check on the node
-> Works. Demand-Poll fails with timeout.

I think SNMP ipAddress field is not used by demand-poll. To get demand-poll
working, i remove all Interfaces execpt the DNS-forward
Interface - unmanage/manage the node .... Not very "handy" for > 200
Routers.

Personally i would like that demand-poll first should try to resolv the
node-name - and uses this for demand-poll.

Anyone know how to find out which IP is used by a demand-poll ?

That's James Shanks in Level 3 Support who brings us those lists.

** warning... speculation....
There is one in there about changing snmp addresses, but it is
about a problem caused by the changing, not about the changing
itself. Since it involves a new environment variable that has not
been documented, I think that customers having problems as a
result of changing snmp addresses are expected to call Support
and they will be told how to take advantage of the fix.

I went straight from 6.0.3 to 7.1.1, so I cannot say for sure
whether those events started with 7.1 or 7.1.1 or whether the events
are related to that apar or not. ** end speculation!

I will say that after reading the apar (IY26119) I plan to take a
good look at the systems I support to make sure I understand
why those events are being generated.

Leslie,

Did you not send a list of fixes on 711 a few weeks ago and did I not
notice something to do with this?

Alan.

That appears to be a new event in V7, and I take it to mean that netview
is keeping better track of which ip address on the device should be used
for snmp access. If you don't want to see it in the events display, you
could
change it in Options...Event configuration...Trap customization to be
Log Only. It is apparently part of the normal configuration polling.

Hi, There
I have some question
I use NetView 7.0 on AIX 4.3.3
An event appears in Event Browser repeatedly like "SNMP Address Changed to
<IP_ADDRESS>" when I reached status polling time. <IP_ADDRESS> is the name
of the router's ipaddress.

I don't knoew what it means.

How can i set the systems to get rid of this happen? Except using RuleSet
or Filter....:-)

Thanks in advance.!
