But what are those daemons, who are all up and running at the time, doing?
Is netmon in the middle of a config check? Have you just started a GUI?
nvUtil is handled by nvcold, who maintains the smartsets, and nvcold has
to query the object database owned by ovwdb. So if you have a lot of
smartsets, or some other daemon, netmon for example, has ovwdb very busy,
then nvcold has to wait, so your nvUtil waits too.
I am not saying that there is not a problem in this area, only that t is
conceivable that nvUtil might not come back right away.
But if you need help diagnosing this, then you'll have to call support.
Only they could give you a tool to run to see what the demons are doing
when the hang occurs.

Subject: [nv-l] nvUtil Utility
NetView 6.0.3 AIX 4.3.3
I am using a script that gathers data using the nvUtil e command. Every
now and then the script just hangs. When I kill the script and run nvUtil
L (or any other switch) the command just hangs. This seems to clear up
after a while. All daemons are up and running. Is there an instance where
nvUtil would not be available with all daemons up and running?
