Leslie,

I am going to be doing something very similar to this - migrating a Token
Ring based AIX (4.3.3) Netview server (6.01) to Ethernet (different IP
address) - at some point I'll also be upgrading this to Netview 7 too.

Are there any additional gotcha's you can think of when changing from token
ring to ethernet? Would I be better emplyed migrating to NV7 first before
migrating networks, or is it pretty much swings and roundabouts?

Many Thanks,

David McClelland

You can change the address without too much trouble. If you were thinking
of dropping the Framework, you can do it that way, too. This is what you
need
to do (notice most of the fuss is with Framework).

Change the ip address in Tivoli Framework:
odadmin odlist change_ip od <newaddr> FALSE
     ovstop nvsecd
smitty tcpip, change the address (move cable, etc)
     odadmin shutdown
     change /etc/hosts, resolv.conf, snmpd.conf, etc
     odadmin start
Test the change
odadmin odlist - should show the server as the managed node.
tivoli - start the desktop, should work.
show properties of the managed node - should show new address.
Change the ip address in Netview
     ovstart nvsecd - minimum startup
     /usr/OV/service/reset_ci
     ovstart
     open map
delete and rediscover node for management station, or demandpoll.
Test the change
Check that the node appears correctly in IP map, Managers map.
Check for errors in nettl log.
If MLM installed, check mlm group, topology, and smconfig.

Cordially,

Our department is going to do a major move of equipment in August. One
piece of equipment that will be moved is the RS6000 box which runs Netview.
I have a couple questions in regards to this. There is the possiblity that
the current IP address for the RS6000 will be changed once the move takes
place because of additional Cisco 6509 (switch/routers) that will be
installed at the new location. I currently have AIX 4.3.3 and Netview
6.0.3 on Tivioli Framework. What kind of hoops do I need to do change IP
for Framework, OR can I install NEtview 7.0.1 without Framework with a new
IP?
