What exactly are you going to upgrade? If you are just putting on the
7.1.3 Fixpack then you need do nothing special. It won't replace your
files. Just read and follow the Release Notes. If you are moving to a
new version of NetView, then there is a standard way to migrate and
preserve your customizations . Use smitty or serversetup "Maintain -->
Backup Selective Data" and then when you install your new NetView, be sure
to specify that you want an upgrade. The backup feature copies your
databases and all your customized config files to a separate backup
directory, /usr/OV.back.v7r1. The upgrade install path makes use of this
directory and at appropriate times during the install merges in your
customized files rather than just lay down the usual ones.

There is plenty of discussion about doing this in the archives of this
forum.

Some folks also use the backup feature on a regular basis so that they can
re-install in the event of a catastrophe. You can archive the
/usr/OV.back.v7r1 to tape or ftp it to another machine. You can use this
method to create a copy of your existing NetView on a new machine if you
like. And finally, if you are worried about losing or corrupting your
carefully customized databases, then the archives talk about people who
regularly tar up all of /usr/OV/databases and save it.
You can restore it later if you have to.

Hope this helps

Hello List:

I'm going to upgrade the Netview Server to a new Tivoli customized version
(this is a customized version for my company) , currently I have made a
lot of adecuations like map views, smartsets, integration with CiscoWorks,
java applet access, data collections, etc.
I don't know yet if the upgrade will overwrite this adecuations, but if
it is the case, do you know if is there a way to backup all these
configurations????
for example to backup the current map views and then to restore it to get
the current views???
Any sugestions or comments???

Netview 7.1.3, AIX 4.3.3.

Thanks. Regards.
Saludos.
