Hi Phillipe,
You mentioned that you might stop using arnvd, and replacing it with
configuring traps to perform an automatic action calling a script using aruser.
Do you have a script that allows you to do that now? If so, would you be
willing to share it?
I think that may be a better way to go (at least for me anyway), for you can
pass the variables from the trap and map them to the required ARS fields (at
least I'm assuming you can do it that way with aruser) - and as you pointed
out, this method allows you to take advantage of the event after correlation.
Thanks either way Phillipe,
Regards,
Dan

Subject: [nv-l] arnvd
Dan,
a bit of vocabulary first :
- arnvd is the Remedy integration daemon for NetView, which usually
implies
AIX
- arovd is the Remedy integration daemon for OpenView, which usually
implies Solaris
I've never heard about arnvd for Solaris or arovd for AIX. I doubt they
exist at all,
just as NetView for Solaris and OpenView for AIX do not exist, and will
never exist.
arnvd *was* bundled with Remedy ARS for AIX in the Remedy Version 2
days.
Since that time Remedy no longer bundles it. I don't know whether you
could
buy it
as an additional product. A question for your Remedy rep.
We still use the old arnvd which is happily creating tickets in our ARS
v4.5 servers.
Also arovd comes along with a graphical tool to update the ov.ar file.
This
file contains
the details about the traps which result in tickets, the servers, forms
and
fields used
to populate new tickets. This AIX version of this tool no longer works.
You
end up
having to update ov.ar (not nv.ar ;-) with a text editor. The format of
the
file is not difficult
but it has longish lines and the delimiters are control chars (^A and
^B).
Murky !
For your information we are considering dropping arnvd altogether and
configuring
each trap for which we want a ticket so that it fires a script which
will
call aruser.
The main reason is that with arnvd we can't take advantage of the event
correlation
done by RFI because arnvd sees all the events before they have been
correlated.
Best regards,
Phil.

arnvd

Hello everyone,
Can someone confirm for me if the Remedy integration daemon for Netview
(arnvd) is available for both Solaris and AIX? or just for AIX?
Also - does arnvd come bundled with Remedy ARS or is it something that
needs to be purchased in addition to?
Thanks,
Dan
