Did any of you try using the "NSORDER" environment variable to alter the
name resolution for Netview ?
here is my situation:
I started entering a lot of entries in the /etc/host file for Netview in
order to have specific name resolution because the dns service that is
running on the server itself resolve different interfaces of the same
object to different names (services). Now we have over 1300 lines in the
hosts file and other applications are suffering: syslogd which does a
gethostbyaddr for every entries it receives was dropping over 75% of the
data and taking 100 % of one of the cpu. (we receive lots of syslog data
from the network)
I would like to change the name resolution to "hosts=bind, local" in
netsvc.conf in order to make the whole system (including syslogd) use named
first but at the same time continue to use the hosts file first for
Netview.
after changing netsvc.conf, I tried to enter "export NSORDER=local, bind" in
netnmrc.pre but the system didn't like it. I restarted the daemons several
times but netviewd and ems_log_agent would not restart.
any idea ?
