Given that xrdb -query is listing information, then at some stage, on any one of the boxes you connect to with X-windows, an 'xrdb -load filename' command must have been run (probably from a $HOME/.xinitrc file). The resources are held from then on in your X-windows screen, not in a file. To over-ride, just create your own newfile with one line nvevents.executeCommands: False and do your own 'xrdb -merge newfile' This will remain in effect till you stop X-windows.
