One of the things that often point me to a NetView on Unix rather than
NetView on Windows, is the availability of the MLM configuration tool on
Unix NetViews (except Linux). This gives you a reasonable GUI to both
insepct and set MLM variables. There is also the Agent Policy Manager
(APM) which makes some of this stuff even better integrated.
If you only have NetView on Windows, I guess that's no help, but if you
do have a Solaris or AIX NetView then do take a look - life gets much
easier!

Jane

I am VERY sure that SNMP set works, I did half of the configurations
with snmp set!
anyway IBM support told me this is the normal behavior for NETMON
server in Windows Netview: it doesn't do any sets to MLMs ...hmmm!!..
hard to believe
thanks

Two thoughts on this...
Are you quite sure that your SNMP community names permit writes as
well as reads???
With the windows MLM, you also need to do an SNMP set to ensure that
the running MLM configuration gets saved away - have you done this?

-now, netview receive from MLMs traps about nodes status up or down
-netview doesn' t ping anymore MLM's nodes so I'm sure the MLMs are
working
-I know that when netview makes a poll to a MLM it does some snmp
gets and
also snmp sets (to upgrade mlm configurations )
-in my case I installed ethereal, listen the net and I don't see
any snmp
set! only gets from each MLM. what's wrong? the community names are
good
the aliaslist never gets updated ! so, I have to do it manually??!!
it's absurd!
(I manually did some sets, and I never received a trap for bad
community name)
thanks,
Lucian
