There is no automated process to generate new events, either singly or in batches. But you can use snmptrap to generate any SNMP V1 trap you choose, provided you know what's in it. If there is no format in trapd.conf, then the "NO FMT FOUND" message will tell you everything you need to know for that. But if the trap is formatted, and all the variable bindings are not shown, then you won't be able to generate it exactly. In that case you can change the way the trap is displayed on the target system so that the log message contains " $* " so that all the varbinds print out. You're only other option is to use serversetup to have trapd run with the -x option (hex dump all packets) and then turn on the trapd.trace, which you can do from the command line, with "trapd -T". This toggles the trace every time you use it. The trace then provides a full hex dump of the incoming trap and you can decode the hex with the help of a book on SNMP. Of corse, if you are connected to these systems, you could have the remote trapd forward yours the events you want to see. Hi list, I'm just in the middle of testing some nv rules / tec integration & I've had a thought (possibly the 1st!) about being able to regenerate traps sent to netview for testing? Typically a trap would have been sent to a customers live netview box, possibly without the trap formatting in place & I need to reproduce it on my machines & do rules/tec stuff. The trap will come from a device I won't have access to so I can't easily re-generate it. Is the trapd.log contents complete & a standard form I can pull out and form a call to snmptrap, or is there a trace that needs to be set that would cause it to contain the full trap and it's variables?
