If you examine the contents of \usr\ov\conf\ovsuf, you will find that there are three NetView daemons which are run by starting spmsur.exe: snmpserver, webserver, and servmon. spmsur.exe is used to provide the environment required for a java background process. They are reported by the Task Manager with the same name because that's all the farther he looks at what is running. So in most installations there would be three spmsur.exe processes running. You could of course de-register any of those daemons if you aren't using them. webserver and snmpserver are jointly used for the web client. servmon, which is new in 7.1.4, has monitoring functions for services that you can read about in the 7.1.4 Release Notes. All three of these should go away when you do an ovstop or stop them from Server Setup. I don't know how to tell you how to determine which is the one using the high cpu, except to not run them and see what effect that has. I'd start with servmon, which is the most likely candidate, and stop him. James Shanks Level 3 Support for Tivoli NetView for UNIX and Windows Tivoli Software / IBM Software Group
Hi all, On my Netview server there are three processes running with the same name spmsur.exe. And one of this always taking 50% of CPU utilization. I checked on the Internet, I think it is related to snmpwalk. Is this normal or something is wrong with Netview, because daemons are going down every time. We have Netview 7.1.4 on windows 2000 server. Mohammed Quayum NOC Administrator Dubai Municipality.
