You are correct. And that is why I say call Support. I believe that it got broken, and I have not had a need to get it fixed at the moment. But you do, so you are hereby nominated to call it in and get it fixed for all of us. Gee - Thanks!

I know that that is one option to just remove the map and then do a regenerate map. We currently only have one map as well. The only issue is that not only do we use location.conf but we also move around some objects on submaps and when you regen it mess' up the customization we do. And I do notthink that you should have to regen the whole map if you add a simple mod to the location.conf file. but that is just me. I was just wondering if what I stated is the case. that after you do your initial discovery does that mean adding new sites into the location.conf file is pointless? I know when it goes to discover a new device it will look in the location.conf file to see if it is in there. But I do not think it uses it after initial discovery for adding new sites.

Chris,
I've been playing with location.conf quite a bit lately and I've run into the same problem. Creating a new map will read the new location.conf file, but because the objects exist they won't show up on the IP Map and you get the errors in the log. I used rediscovery to fix the problem for a while, but lately I've just been selecting Automatic Map generation (Administer/Server Setup/Control/Restart automatic map generation). For me I only have the default map and I'm trying to tailor the location.conf to populate locations without any manual intervention. This has been working very well for me. NV 7.1.4, Redhat 7.2 Jason

Would this "issue" also prevent new additions into the location.conf file from being seen on the Map. Meaning: I have a functioning Location.conf been running a while. We just added another site (EUROPE_EVPN) I stopped netview (ovstop) vi'd the location.conf to add the EUROPE_EVPN as a site and then listed all the citys and devices under it so it looks something like this.

International 255 Site
EUROPE_EVPN 255 Site International
  Mauepas 1.1.1.1 Site EUROPE_EVPN
  Chatearoux 2.2.2.2 Site EUROPE_EVPN

when I start netview again (/etc/netnmrc) the GUI, the site EUROPE_EVPN does not get created, nor any of the others mentioned. Is this a result of the "issue" above or is this just the fact that location.conf only works "once" on initial discovery?

Thanks
CHris Petrina

I would call Support. I have seen this at 7.1.4, although it worked fine at 7.1.3. To work around it, I have rediscovered completely. That does work. The problem occurred when I did 'File..New Map'.

greetings,

location.conf -> if I modify location.conf then create a new map it should use the modified version of location.conf in the new map correct?

I do this and I get errors here is aportion of the location.conf and the erros I get

createLocations: Unable to create location Ajax. A non-location object with that selection name already exists in the object database.

OBJECT: 4741

FIELD ID FIELD NAME FIELD VALUE
    10 Selection Name "Ajax"
    14 OVW Maps Exists 1
    15 OVW Maps Managed 1
    107 isLocation TRUE

it calls it a non location object yet you cans ee from above that it is a location object. Any Help?

Thanks
Chris Petrina
