I'm on solaris but I use Cisco's VPN client all the time.
 
I do a "who" command to find my own IP address and export that as the display. Sounds like you should be working.

Has any one had problems exporting the Display in AIX to be able to start the gui (Netview) via VPN?  If so, how did you get around it?

I can’t seem to do it from home.  Ive just acquired cable modem.
