Thread-topic: [nv-l] exporting DISPLAY (AIX) via VPN
It may sound like a round about way, but's actually much more efficient from a network standpoint. Back when all we had was dial up access from home X-windows over dial up was sort of like pulling teeth. I learned that I could terminal server to a server on the local netwrok and X-windows from there. MUCH better. I still practice this from home over VPN - X-windows on the local are network at 100 mb is still better than X-windows from home at 2 mb.

I use remote desktop to connect to a server on the network and then use Hummingbird from that server to connect to the AIX server. I know it’s a round about way, but it works.

Has any one had problems exporting the Display in AIX to be able to start the gui (Netview) via VPN?  If so, how did you get around it?

I can’t seem to do it from home.  I’ve just acquired cable modem.

Thanks,

Herman E. Caballero
