well I guess an example would help. ON the IP INTERNET MAP I have a container called HQ. it is surrounded by regions under the regions containers I have states, under those I have containers called Cities (multiple city containers put state). On this map (the one with mulitple cities) is where I have my WAN segments I placed themt ehre by hand, because otherwise it would fill up my entire IP Internet map and make it unuseable. When I runt he build_location.conf I do not see those WAN segments under those containers. "Garden_Grove" gdc-rtr-v2 "Garden_Grove" gad-rtr-v1 "Garland" 10.231.23 "Site" "Garland" gar-rtr-v1 "Garner" day-rtr-s1 Small sample of the lcoation.conf the device names are routers at their particular cities. the 10.231.23 is a segment. It is the only segment that shows up in the whole location.conf file. Chris Petrina
If you placed the subnet in a container, your location.conf should match that. Is your experience different? -----Original Message----- From: owner-nv-l@lists.us.ibm.com [mailto:owner-nv-l@lists.us.ibm.com]On Behalf Of Christopher J Petrina Sent: Monday, March 29, 2004 3:58 PM To: nv-l@lists.us.ibm.com Subject: Re: [nv-l] Creating location.conf from a NetView Map - new contributed code This is actually a very helpful script for the most part. The only thing I ahve noticed is that it does not collect subnets and place them into containers. ut other then that what I have been using it for is after I have custom put all my devices into their proper containers, I use the build_location.pl to create a copy of my location.conf incase something should happen and I need to wipe out my map it is a very good beginning step to getting back the map graphically.
