I have a question about the snmpd daemon specifically on AIX. I am running
version 5.1. In the snmpd.conf documentation at the top of the file it shows
an example of allowing an IP address to access the SNMP agent on a node as
listed here:

community public 156.81.226.235 255.255.255.128

I wanted to try an alias instead of an IP address so if I needed to move the
polling to another node I could do it without changing all of the
configuration files.

community public alias.pepsi.com 255.255.255.128

It worked by I had a behavior question? Does the snmpd daemon look up the
alias name on initialization or when queried?

Thanks,

Scott Bursik
