This feature is only supported on Unix platforms, as far as I know. Did it get added to Windows recently, Oliver. Anyway, I often find it useful to add the ability to do certain things when nodes are added. You can automate on the trap 'Node Added'. On Unix platforms, I would do this using a Netview Ruleset. On Windows, I think I would just trigger it right in the event configuration (trapd). There is a place in there where you can trigger your own script or bat file or program. Windows is not my strongest skill, so I won't go into details here. There are a number of notes on the topic of event automation in Netview for Windows in the archives of this list. I would go about it this way, however. First, customize the event to call your bat file, passing it the name of the node from the trap ($2). I know you have to give it the whole path to your bat file. Just have it write to a log until you get the invocation figured out. And practice at the commandline using the smartsetutil command to query field values for the node. The field you are looking for is 'isSNMPSupported' (try ovobjprint -s <nodename> to see all of the fields). And try the nvmaputil command for managing and unmanaging a node. Once you have mastered the syntax, add them to your bat file. I find all sorts of uses for a hook like this. Cordially, Leslie A. Clark IBM Global Services - Systems Mgmt & Networking Detroit
