Jeff,

I don't know anything about this 3COM switch but if the event is predefined in the RMON-Event-Group, make sure that the "eventType" is set to either "snmp-trap(3)" or "log-and-trap(4)".
Also the "eventStatus" must be "valid(1)".

From /usr/OV/snmp_mibs/rfc1271-RMON
------
....
          eventType OBJECT-TYPE
              SYNTAX INTEGER {
                      none(1),
                      log(2),
                      snmp-trap(3),    -- send an SNMP trap
                      log-and-trap(4)
              }
              ACCESS read-write
              STATUS mandatory
              DESCRIPTION
                  "The type of notification that the probe will make
                  about this event.  In the case of log, an entry is
                  made in the log table for each event.  In the case of
                  snmp-trap, an SNMP trap is sent to one or more
                  management stations."
              ::= { eventEntry 3 }
....

          eventStatus OBJECT-TYPE
              --SYNTAX EntryStatus
              SYNTAX INTEGER {
                 valid(1), createRequest(2), underCreation(3), invalid(4)
              }
              ACCESS read-write
              STATUS mandatory
              DESCRIPTION
                  "The status of this event entry.

                  If this object is not equal to valid(1), all associated
                  log entries shall be deleted by the agent."
              ::= { eventEntry 7 }
....
------

Hope this helps.

Oliver

[nv-l] #COM 3300 STACK UNIT REMOVED TRAP

    Does anybody know how to enable the TRAPS for  3COM 3300 STACKS so
that when a STACK MEMBER (unit) goes offline it will generate a trap?

   I receive traps from the 3300 switch but when a unit of the stack is
removed or fails I never get a trap.

   I do know that 3com uses RMON EVENTS to generate these traps and
there is one defined in the EVENT group called UNIT REMOVED but I do not
know how to enable it.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks in advance.
