James:
Sorry, I meant to continue my previous message that had the files listed,
but you guessed correctly that I want to delete the data files in
/usr/OV/databases/snmpCollect.
Oddly, even though I "Suspended" the ifOutUcastPkts in xnmcollect and
clicked "OK", it goes back to "Collecting" when I went back into
xnmcollect. So I think I need to follow your suggestion below to stop
xnmcollect permanently since I am only using Netview to receive traps and
forward them to TEC.
Thanks again for your help.

Deleting these files? What files exactly? Are you talking about removing
the collections from the snmpCol.conf file using the xnmcollect GUI with
the "Delete" button?
That you can do, but there is no need if they are suspended, and who
knows, you might want to collect some data with snmpCollect some day. The
suspended collections could act as templates or examples for what you
might really want to do.
I would not delete snmpCol.conf since that controls snmpCollect, and if he
is running, then he needs that file.
Did you want to delete the data that snmpCollect already collected? That's
stored in the database under /usr/OV/databases/snmpCollect. You can
delete all the entries under that directory if you like, though I would
stop snmpCollect first (ovstop snmpCollect). If you want to format the
data and see what it looks like before you delete it, see the man page on
the snmpColdump command.
If you are afraid that someone else will resume these data collections, or
you just don't want snmpCollect to be running in your system because you
never use him, you could always fix it so that snmpCollect is never even
started. You would deregister him like this:
(1) ovstop snmpCollect
(2) ovdelobj /usr/OV/lrf/snmpCol.lrf
To add him back
(1) ovaddobj /usr/OV/lrf/snmpCol.lrf
(2) ovstart

Thanks James - I will do that. Are there any negative side-effects from
just deleting these files once the collections are suspended?

Type in xnmcollect from the command line to start the snmpCollect
collection editor. Look in the first column of the display under the word
"Status" If you see collections say "Collecting", then select each of
them in turn, and click the "Suspend" button to shut them off. Then OK
your way out.
