There are several gif89a interlaces, believe it or not, some will work, some will not. I used the Gimp to create mine and they worked ok. As far as fixes, patches or workarounds, you are running on a unsupported platform on an unsupported versions. It's highly unlikely that anything exists for this setup any more. You might be able to find some relevant knowledge entries, try searching with gif89a.
