Usman,
I would expect if you are getting a lot of generic type 2 messages you
are also
receiveing a large number of generic type 3 messages. It sounds like you
have
a link that is trying to (re)establish a link to something(WAN?) and is
unsuccessful
and (re)tries on a regular basis to reconnect. This would have an almost
equal
number of type 2 and type 3 messages. If you are only receiving type 2
messages,
I would think something is misconfigured on the device itself. Have you
checked
the configuration of the switch to see if it is actually configured to
send traps to
NetView, or possibly to another network manager that is sending them to
NetView?
I can tell you from the trap information that you should take a look at
what is on
Interface(port?) 21(ifIndex) and that it is reporting Administratively
Up, but
Operationally down.

Hi all,
I am having too many events with the following details: -
* DEFAULT FMT: TEST (1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1) generic:2 specific:0 args(3):*
* [1] mgmt.mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifIndex.21 (Integer): 21*
* [2] mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifAdminStatus.21 (Integer): 1*
* [3] mib-2.interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifOperStatus.21 (Integer): 2*
Its coming from one of our LAN switches, the thing is that i havent
configured this switch to forward any traps to NetView. Why am i
having these events?
