Have you considered using DHCP reservations? Tie the
MAC address to a DHCP IP but get the benefits of any other scope change being
dynamic.

Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2005 8:37 AM To: nv-l@lists.us.ibm.com Subject: [nv-l] Want to manage dhcp Hello: In reference to the post http://lists.skills-1st.co.uk/mharc/html/nv-l/2001-10/msg00318.html, we actually want to manage DHCP addressed boxes, specifically video equipment. I understand that we could put in the range of network addresses that are in the dhcp range, but everytime a node changed ip, it would show as down. Can Netview or something that connects to it manage by MAC so each time the ip changes on a device, it is consistent on the map? We are using a static dns in that ip 1.1.1.1 always maps to bob.ford.com, no matter what device bob.ford.com is naming at that time. Thanks in advance. Becki Kain |
