Re: [nv-l] Smartset query dumps
Yes and no. With apologies to Mick Jagger, you can't always get what you
want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.
(1) The contents of smartsets can be listed and manipulated with nvUtil
command.
nvUtil L for example will list them all by name
nvUtil G will list them all by name, description, and rule
nvUtil l <smartset_name> will give you a list of members for that
smartset (that's a lower case L not an uppercase I)
Notice that unlike most UNIX commands, the options for nvUtil are not
preceded by a dash.
(2)You cannot output the contents of a submap to a list, but you can use
ovobjprint to print the entire object databases as a listing and browse
through it looking for unmanaged nodes. The IP Status field will say
Unmanaged(5). You can also create a report using nvdbformat. See the
man
page on how to do that.
You could also create a smartset with the rule being IP Status = Unmanaged
and get of your unmanaged things in one place and then use nvUtil to
create
your list.

Hi lists,
Netview 7.1.3 Solaris 8
Is there a way to output some of the GUI driven commands to text or std
out?
1. I want to view my smartsets in a list on the Solaris cmd line. From the
Smartset editor gui you can "Verify" the smartset, can I output that to a
listing somewhere?
2. I also would like to see the output from "Locate>objects>By symbol
status" and similar from that drop down.
The end result I am after for number 2 is to verify all of the "unmanaged"
devices should be unmanaged by bouncing it off our DNS lists and
comparing.
Our DNS lists are not quite up to date and I wan tot verify all cisco
devices are in DNS from the smartsets I have defined as cisco OID and
isRouter etc...
Thanks in advance for any help
